Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley (CCRGV) remains focused on the mission of protecting and upholding the sanctity and dignity of all human lives.

Staff and volunteers at Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley and the Humanitarian Respite Center have worked tirelessly with local leaders, elected officials, U.S. Customs
and Border Protection, and other organizations to provide support to people throughout our service area. We work to ensure that all asylum-seeking and citizen families alike are
treated with human dignity and given clean clothes, food, and a moment of rest at the Humanitarian Respite Center.

When the Texas Attorney General’s Office demanded testimony from CCRGV regarding its help to immigrants who have been processed by the federal government, CCRGV
voluntarily responded to the Texas Attorney General’s Office, including providing more than 100 pages of documents. We provide services to immigrants within the letter and spirit of all laws.

However, on June 5, the Texas Attorney General’s Office asked a court to order a deposition. On July 3, attorneys representing Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley
(CCRGV) filed a response opposing the petition for being without merit, and outside the requirements of governing legal statutes.

As noted in the response, “The Petition represents a fishing expedition into a pond where no one has ever seen a fish. The only conclusion to be drawn from the substantial
information CCRGV has provided to the Attorney General to date is that CCRGV has committed no legal violations.” There is no basis in law for allowing the Attorney General to continue casting his line into barren waters.

We will always strive to fulfill our legal obligations while continuing to steadfastly pursue our mission, inspired by Sacred Scripture and the Social Teaching of the Catholic Church: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me.” Matthew 25:35
